Greetings to you in the name of the Lord! My name is Delvin D. Elwell, Jr. People here call me Pastor Delvin. I hope that the following information will help you get to know me better.
Bio: I was born February 14, 1953 in Fayetteville, WV. I was born again at the age of 8 while my father, D.D. Elwell, Sr., was pastoring the Hollywood Baptist Church in MacArthur, WV.
Educational Background: I graduated from Hinton High School in 1971. Afterwards, I completed an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC in 1975. In addition, I received a Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) degree from Liberty University in the latter part of the 1990’s.
Pastoral Experience: I preached my first sermon at First Baptist Church in Hinton, WV in the month of December 1971. That same church licensed me to preach in May of 1974. Three years later I was ordained on July 31, 1977. Two churches participated in that ordination: Hinton First Baptist Church, where I was the associate pastor at the time, and Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill, WV, where I was also pastoring at the time. Both of those churches hold a dear place in my heart. Since that time, I have pastored in the following places: Big Clear Creek Baptist Church in Rupert, WV; Union Southern Baptist Church in Union, WV; Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Churchville, VA; and Shady Spring First Baptist Church in Shady Spring, WV. Altogether I have been preaching for about 46 years and pastoring for about 41 years.
When I first came to Shady Spring First Baptist Church: I am in my 22nd year at my current pastorate. I came to Shady Spring First Baptist Church in May 1996. That time has passed with amazing quickness. I thank the people of my church, members past and present, who have made that long tenure possible. I could not have been here this long without them and their forgiving spirits. God bless them all!
